If the pavers are 16 inches by 16inches, 16 inches is 1.3333333 feet. The area of each paver is 1.3333333*1.3333333, or 1.7777778 square feet. Divide your 215 square feet by 1.77777778. You;ll need 121 pavers. If the gravel is 3 inches deep you'll need 2 cubic yards; if the you lay the sand 2 inches deep, you'll need 1.4 cubic yards of sand.

There's no easy answer for digging through the feeder roots of the oak tree. You'll just have to take it slow and easy. Try not to dig too deeply or your pavers will settle over the years. Good luck with your project!
