My grass is green but is going to seed. It started in one area and now it is spreading. Why? What do I do to get it back to nice soft blades of grass?

Turfgrass that's going to seed isn't being mowed often enough. Some grasses, such as annual bluegrass will go to seed and then die out. To keep it green and growing, keep it mowed so it doesn't have a chance to send up seed heads.
