How moist should the soil be when I place my cut back geraniums (in large outdoor pots) in the garage for the winter? Should I water them at all while they are in darkness?

The soil should be barely moist, just short of dry. The idea is to allow the plants to go dormant, and as such they will use next to no moisture. However, you should not let the soil go bone dry as that will cause the roots to dry out completely. On the other hand, if the soil is too wet the plants will rot. Very large containers may not need additional water for weeks at a time if the garage is sufficiently cool. You will have to dig down a ways with your finger and see from time to time. Good luck with your geraniums!
