|You can use several thicknesses of newspapers to cover the soil around your tomatoes and other vegetables or you can cover the bare soil with 2-3 inches of compost - or you can use both! Either or a combination of the two will help suppress weeds, slow water evaporation and moderate soil temperatures and since they are organic in nature can be dug into the soil at the end of the growing season to help turn your garden soil into rich garden loam. Hope you have a great harvest!
