I have a very pretty garden every year around my apartment building. For some unexplained reason the maintenance cut down a beautiful, healthy, 12 ft. high lilac bush! GEESH! :O( This area now detracts from my garden! What kind of flowers can I plant around a very rooty ground and a lilac stump?

How sad to have the lilac cut down. The good news is that it will resprout from the stump later this summer and by next year you'll have the start of a beautiful lilac. In the meantime, try planting a trailing or creeping annual to disguise the stump and bring some color to the area. Nasturtiums, sweet potato vine, and petunias are all fast growing, colorful annuals. Enjoy!
