My mother gave me many hostas, HUGE ones. We filled the holes with water, planted them and she said 'don't be surprised if they're droopy later today.' Yes, they were. This was on Monday, it is now Thursday. How long will they continue to droop? What can I do to make them stand up?

Your mother is right! Your hostas are suffering from transplant shock and while they will eventually settle in, they are likely to look pathetic for another week. Just water as usual and be patient. Once they establish themselves they will develop new growth. If any of the old leaves look bad at that point you can prune them off. Best wishes with your hostas!
