We are pulling up old overgrown bushes in the front yard. There was mulch on the ground around the bushes and we have had alot of rain over the last few days. This morning I noticed patches of orange spores in the leftover mulch on the ground. Any idea what it is? Or how to remove it? We have a 2 year old and I just want to be sure...Thank you

The orange stuff is a fungal or mushroom growth. The conditions were perfect with the shade and the moisture and the mulch. The growth is a result of decomposing roots or organic mulch material. Just rake it out, or scoop it out, mulch and all. Then rake the mulch periodically to incorporate some fresh air and you shouldn't see any new orange patches. It's harmless, just odd looking but since you have a 2 year old, you'll want to remove it from the landscape.
