Flimsy Eucalyptus - Knowledgebase Question

Question by delilahrenee

We planted a Eucalyptus a couple of years ago; it's currently probably 6-7 ft. tall, but it's extremely flimsy. Is that normal until it reaches a certain height? I bought it at a nursery and it was probably 6-8 inches tall. We have it stakes as we're afraid a strong wind will blow it over. It looks, otherwise, very healthy. Also, what is the approximate height it will reach? Thanks so much.

The height a eucalyptus can reach really depends upon the cultivar so I can't help you in that respect, but I do know that eucalyptus is rather willowy in youth but becomes rock solid as the trunk matures and becomes more rigid. I'd keep it staked until the trunk stiffens up. Best wishes with your eucalyptus!
