I had heard that you should not fertilize St Augustine during the hottest months of the year . I previously fertilized in April and am wondering about a second treatment. Does it make any difference if you use an organic fertilizer.

You can feed your St. Augustine in June. You can use an organic fertilizer or something like Scott's fertilizer with Summer guard. Be sure to apply in amounts as recommended on the label.
