|After reading your answer to Robert Gay of MD, I am wondering how near is near? I recently planted an apricot tree (Perfection Dwarf) about 38 feet from my better half's veggy garden. Do I need to move the tree? Also will this tree self pollinate?|
|The Perfection apricots are not self-fruitful so you will need another variety of apricot tree for pollination. |
Fruit tree disease control in general can be aided by good hygiene (cleaning up and destroying all tree trash and prunings) and maintaining good plant vigor. Additionally, your local County Extension agent can help you determine the best spray regime for your area since that depends on both the current year's weather patterns and historic disease patterns. (The number in Burlington County is 265-5051.)
With regard to the vegetable garden, 40 feet should be sufficient distance to avoid overshading and root-run competition -- unfortunately, I am not sure exactly what your other question(s) are but I hope this helps.
Good luck with your apricots!
