I had plans to put up a fence but Miss Utility says no. I have a small yard,, aprox. 21' x16'. I would like to plant shrubs to enclose the area. My back yard faces a public easement and children are constantly walking through. What can I plant that would grow quickly and full to give me privacy. I also have a puppy that chews everything. I would not want to get something poisonous to her.

Thorny shrubs will discourage trespassing so why not plant holly, hedge roses (such as Knock Out), or barberry? All will keep people and stray dogs out of your yard. Best wishes with your landscape.
