Unfortuantely the seed sources I identified only offer the seed during the months of September and October when it is fresh. Perhaps one of the two listed below will be able to assist you in locating either seeds or perhaps small plants for your son's project.

The Florida Native Plant Society (FNPS)
c/o Crow-Segal Management Firm, Inc.
1133 West Morse Boulevard, Suite 201
Winter Park, FL 32789

Another source of information on obtaining Florida native plants is the Plant and Service Locater published by the

Assn. of Florida Native Plant Nurseries
P.O. Box 1045
San Antonio, Florida 33576-1045
(904) 588-3687
