|Getting rid of fleas is a combination effort including treating pets to kill fleas on them as well as killing fleas outdoors and indoors with products that kill adults and with growth regulator products that prevent eggs and larvae from developing. These must all be done together in order to shut down the cycle of the insects. Fleas do not survive well outdoors in hot, sunny lawns. Relative humidity less than 50 percent or soil temperature higher than 95 degrees F kills flea larvae. Moist, shaded spots near pet resting areas are the places to find fleas. Carbaryl (Sevin) and chlopyrifos (Dursban) are registered for flea control outdoors. Be sure to apply according to label directions.
