I'd go with bluegrass or a 50/50 bluegrass/ryegrass blend. You'll have a green lawn all year around with heat tolerance, and heavy foot traffic tolerance if you choose these grasses. The new grass won't really overtake your existing lawn. About the only way to get rid of the different grasses is to rototil your lawn and start all over with a nice thick sod (which will help crowd out other grasses). But, even if you planted brand new sod, you'd begin to find a variety of native grasses invading it in 4-5 years. Grass seeds blow into the yard and birds also deposit them so there will always be other grasses trying to invade your lawn. I think is easier to simply put up with the variety of grasses - dig out the clumps of grasses that have thick blades if they're not comfortable to walk on or you don't like their look. Best wishes with your lawn!
