We would like to plant shade trees that have purple leaves all season. But we don't want the trees that drop the whirl-a gigs that clog your gutters. Is there such a tree?

You're describing a maple tree but there are other trees with purple leaves to consider. Ornamental plum trees have burgundy leaves; smoke bush, 'Dawyck Purple' European Birch, and Forest Pansy Redbud all have purple leaves.
