There are only a few herbicides registered as safe to use in a vegetable garden to kill grass; Poast is one. However, I'd use it with caution. Pulling the weeds or smothering them with a thick mulch is a more organic approach. Several thicknesses of newspaper laid between the plants, or cardboard, will help control the weedy growth and at the end of the gardening season these organic materials can be turned under to help amend the soil.
