Capers are the unopened buds of the plant Capparis spinosa. It's native to the Mediterranean climates and should grow well in your region. It's a deciduous shrub with a sprawling growth habit and white 2-3 inch flowers with lavender stamens. The flowers open at dawn and close by mid-afternoon. You can purchase seeds to grow your own Capparis from Redwood City Seed Company, P. O. Box 361, Redwood City, CA 94064.
