Rocky soil - Knowledgebase Question

I have recently moved to Missouri where the land is rocky and hilly. I want to plants some flowers. Once I get the soil dug up what do you recommend.

Once you dig the ground and add 3-4 inches of organic matter you can plant all sorts of annuals and perennials. The plants you choose will depend upon whether the area is sunny or shady (check the plant tags). The University of Illinois has a list of fool proof plants for your growing region.
