You can overseed a bare area if you rake out the dead grass, mix in a little compost or peat moss and then plant your grass seeds. It's best to match the type of grass that you're already growing so you don't end up with patches of different colored grasses. If you're not sure what your sod is, you can simply take some plugs from healthy areas of your lawn and plant them in the centers of the bare areas. They will root and spread over the summer months and once they do, you won't be able to tell where the bare spots used to be. Enjoy your garden!
