We have a split rail fence with 2x4 wire fencing inside of the split rail, however it was put all the way down to the grown. Can not use a weed-wacker, what can we use to kill the grass & weeds that are left after mowing, that will not harm our dog. (He doesn't eat grass) Thank you

The most permanent fix is to dig a shallow trench and fill it with concrete or gravel so weeds will not grow in the area. In the case of gravel, weeds might sprout but because they cannot firmly anchor their roots in the gravel, they will be easy to pull. Failing that, you can carefully spray the target area with a vegetation killer such as Brush B Gon or Round Up. It will kill everything it touches so you'll need to be careful with the application. Nothing will grow there for quite some time. It's not permanent, though - you'll need to treat the area again as new weeds emerge. Read the cautions on the label and keep your dog away until the product dries. Best wishes with your landscape.
