Depending upon the extent of the split you may be able to attach a splint to the tree to hold the split together. Use two pieces of wood, one opposite the other and tape them snuggly against the tree, wrapping around and around to hold both splints. In time the split should heal. Or, You may be able to help it heal by anchoring the split together with a bolt and nut. Drilling a hole completely through the tree opposite the split and inserting a bolt is a last-ditch effort but I've had it work for me. Hope your tree recovers.
