Thank you for your quick response to my previous question. You helped a lot! I have one more question. It is officially the 2nd day of summer. I want to add compost to my birch tree which I planted about a month ago. Is it too late to dig it up and place the compost around the roots? Or, should I wait for fall? Thank you in advance.

The answer really depends upon how hot the weather will be over the next 2-3 weeks. Digging and transplanting your tree will stress it, hot weather will stress it even more. If the temps will be moderate - 80 degrees or under - you can dig it up now. If temperatures are predicted to be higher than that, I'd wait until this fall. Best wishes with our tree.
