Gophers are eating my garden and they are staying underground. Or is it something else? What can i do, they have killed my squash, and are attacking my tomatoes and potoes now.

Gophers can damage plants by digging through the root systems but they don't actually come above ground and eat the stems and leaves. If something is feasting on the plants themselves, you may be dealing with rabbits or some other critter. Gophers can be controlled with traps; squirrels and rabbits are harder to deter. You'll need to fence your garden in to exclude these critters.
