i want to prune my wave petunias stems to promote more flowers. i already pinch each day the dead blooms, but how many inches can i prune to get the plant to be full and thick. pinching the flowers isn't keeping it full, the stems are very long. if i prune several inches it will cut the existing blooms, but wouldn't that help it to re-bloom more new flowers.

You're right. Wherever you cut the stem, two new stems will appear. Cutting the long stems back, even if you have to sacrifice some flowers now, will help your plant become bushy. Just remember to pinch back the tips of the stems every few weeks to promote more flowering stems. Enjoy your petunias!
