With June bearers it is a good idea to cut off foliage right after harvest. The plants will grow new foliage which will nourish them for the rest of the season. If you have a large strawberry plot and you want to use a lawn mower for this, set the mower so you leave about 1.5" of plant. Otherwise, just snip off the foliage by hand, then fertilize with a 5-10-10 and water deeply. The fertilizer package will indicate how much to apply, according to how long a row of strawberries you are growing. Or, you can simply side dress with 2-3 inches of compost to provide nutrients to your strawberry plants. Enjoy your garden.
