we have curly leaf and smooth leaf kale. The leaf kale is doing fine but the smoother leaf variety is sorta shriveling up and has droppy leaves. What's is going on?

Water stress can cause the leaves to droop as can hot, humid weather. Kale prefers to grow in the late winter/early spring or in the late summer/early fall when temperatures are cool. Now that summer weather is here to stay, you may need to harvest your kale and then replant late this summer. Wish I had better news for you.
