|Sounds more like sunscald than anything else. Usually tomatoes are shielded by leaves from the hot sunshine but those that get full sun can turn white. If you can put up some temporary shade, it will help. Splitting skins can be a result of sunscald and/or inconsistent watering practices. The skins cannot expand rapidly enough to accommodate the water the fruit is taking up and the skins will split. Filtered shade from the hot afternoon sunshine can help stop this process.
