what can I put down in my vegetable garden to get rid of the weeds/grass that has sprung up due to so much rain in my area. I don't want to use anything that will be harmful to my plantings.

I'm afraid pulling the weeds is the best approach. Or you can try suffocating them with several layers of newspaper or cardboard. A thick organic mulch will keep weed seeds from germinating so once you've cleared all the weeds out of the garden you can cover over the bare soil with a 3-4 inch layer of organic matter. Good luck with your garden!
