We recently had to remove our Green Ash tree and want to plant another tree. A fried recommended a Norway Maple. Can you suggest any other trees that are medium growers and not messy? Thank you.

Where large fast-growing shade trees are needed, we suggest balsam poplar, sycamore, honey locust, white ash, green ash, red maple, and silver maple. Trees that become large and long-lived but grow slowly are white oak, bur oak, hickory, walnut, sugar maple, and hackberry. Intermediate between those two groups are pin oak, horse chestnut, linden, and the tulip tree or yellow poplar. Hope these suggestions are helpful.
