Pineapples turn a golden brown rather than green when ripe and develop a nice pineapple fragrance when ripe. To harvest the pineapple, cut it off at the base of the fruit. The mother plant only fruits once. It will not survive long but will produce daughter plants from its base. These can be left in a clump or broken off and potted up as individual plants.
