My husband (idiot) accidently weed-wacked my entire peony bed down to the ground last week. Will that kill them?

Probably not. While a husband and a weed whacker can be a dangerous combination at times, your peonies will most likely recover from their inadvertent mowing. You may see the plants sprout new foliage this summer, but even if they don't, the root system of established plants should be vigorous enough to come back next spring. At most, they may not bloom as well for a season.
