I CAN NOT KEEP UP WITH THE GRASS GROWING IN MY VEGATABLE GARDEN IS SOMETHING I CAN PUT ON IT THAT WON'T HARM PLANTS

There are no herbicides that are suitable to use in your food garden. If it's too much to weed, I'd suggest cutting the grass low, then using layers of newspaper covered with some kind of mulch to smother the weeds between the rows and as close to the plants as you can get. Some folks pick up discarded carpet samples at a flooring store and put those down to keep weeds at bay. Next year, mulch before weeds get the upper hand.
