Bluebird Haven Iris Garden is the largest historic Tall Bearded Iris Garden in the U.S. It is a Victorian show garden in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. An acre of landscaped iris, daffodils, wildflowers, and a variety of shrubs and trees are surrounded by acres of row-cultivated iris.
During the bloom season over 100,000 irises will be displaying their vibrant colors. Their garden features a Victorian gazebo, park benches, paths for viewing and selecting your favorite irises, and picnic tables for a leisurely lunch.
Mary Hess is the hardest-working woman I know, as she manages this business by herself, only with occasional help. She carries over 4000 varieties of both modern and historic irises and her prices are fair as well.
As of last speaking with her, she has been planning to install a new website, as the current one is unable to give you an idea if an iris is out of stock. Also she has more irises that have not been entered into the website. So she will take orders by email and let you know what she has available. She just wants you to email your wish list to her and she will get back with you. Of course, if you are ordering in her busy season between May and June, it might be a wait. I don't know when she starts taking orders, but if you are looking for a rare iris, it would be good to email her early in the year.
