Movable Garden Paths

Posted by @Eric4home on
Do you need walkways in your garden? I've been using used carpet for my pathways for years. It's easy on the knees while planting and weeding, holds moisture in the soil, reduces soil compaction, and blocks weeds

The carpet is movable as you change plantings from year to year. The best part is that it's free! Just stop by a job site and haul it home. All I'm doing is giving it a delay en route to the landfill. When I get it home, I just roll it out in the driveway, cut it into 16-24" wide strips with a utility knife, and re-roll the strips. This makes it easier to handle and store. I have rolled out a small room size carpet and planted my cantaloupes and squash through the carpet. No weeds and healthy rinds. It also gives you a defined outline to pull stray vines into. I usually opt for a beige or green, but if you use a dark color it will help warm the soil until the plants spread out.
