More Than Just a Sea of Green

Posted by @Paul2032 on
There was a time when the Hostas available to the average gardener were predominantly shades of green with an occasional one that was gold or bluish. That is not true today, as the work of some dedicated hybridizers and mutations from Mother Nature have given us a wider palette of hosta colors to choose from. Careful selection of some of the lovely cultivars available today can make the Hosta Garden something more than a sea of green.

For those of us who love them, planting a Hosta Garden can be a very fulfilling pastime. There are many sources of Hostas to choose from, and available choices are almost endless . Placing each individual plant in a manner that will complement its neighbor allows the Hostaphile to express his or her creativity. If something doesn't work, a shovel can be one of your best design tools. Move a plant that doesn't seem to fit with its neighbors and put it somewhere else. Here are some examples of the variety of colors available and also some combinations......
