Get inventive; re-purpose what you have on hand in a closet or in the shed, or hit the thrift stores and yard sales. Supplemental lighting doesn't have to be expensive or beautiful.

I don't normally keep plants in the house, so it was a rare experience to live with more than 75 plants during the recent unusual polar vortex.
The fluorescent ceiling fixture wasn't reaching all the plants. An old fluorescent desk lamp helped to supply some light. Thumb of 2014-05-31/greene/924b2e
But it was necessary to get inventive to supply a bit more light to keep some of the plants happy. I used a small aquarium light set on a wire basket, which was balanced to extend out of a wall cabinet, with canned goods used as the counterweight.

All the plants survived!
