Growing Pains

A plant clinic for Sempervivum, Jovibarba and J. heuffelii. This is a companion article for the Sempervivum and Jovibarba forum.

We are very fortunate and excited to have a member of our forum who is extremely knowledgeable about Sempervivum, Jovibarba and J. heuffelii. Do you want to learn how to create a great potting mix? How to care for that sempervivum that looks like it's rotting? How to remove chicks from the mother hen? And why doesn't my plant look like the picture in the database? Can I stop a sempervivum from flowering? There are so many more questions we have about raising these wonderful plants.

He can also help you understand the botanical name of your favorite hardy succulent.

For instance, what do all the parts of these plant names mean?

Sempervivum calcareum ‘Pink Pearl’,  S. arach. ‘Ali’ and Jovibarba hirta sobolifera
