Garden Gurus and Celebrities Usher in Spring at the NYC GROWS Garden Festival in Union Square

South Burlington (April 7, 2006) - Come and get the dirt on gardening from Rebecca Kolls, Joe Lamp'l, Kitty Bartholomew, and other garden gurus on Saturday, April 29, 2006, as the National Gardening Association (NGA) and the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation will co-present the NYC GROWS GARDEN FESTIVAL in Union Square Park. This daylong celebration of gardening is open to the public, and is the highlight event of NYC GROWS and NGA's National Garden Month? 2006.

The Garden Festival, featuring a wide array of free hands-on gardening demonstrations and activities for the public, will be located adjacent to the popular Greenmarket in Union Square between 14th and 17th Streets. Among the presenters you'll find familiar faces from television and screen whose enthusiasm and advice have encouraged millions of viewers to take up their shovels and get in on the garden game:

Emmy Award-winning actor Peter Strauss stars on both stage and screen. Last seen as the U.S. President in XXX: State of the Union, Peter recently completed starring Off Broadway as Sigmund Freud in Primary Stage's Sabina and in Chinese Friends at Playwrights Horizon Theater. Peter is well known for his long list of starring roles in motion pictures-for-television, including The Jericho Mile, for which he won an Emmy Award. He also received Emmy Award nominations for his roles two mini-series - Rich Man, Poor Man and Masada - as well as five Golden Globe nominations.

Master Gardener Rebecca Kolls hosts the nationally syndicated series Rebecca's Garden. In addition, Kolls has served as the gardening and lifestyle contributor for ABC's Good Morning America. Rebecca's Garden is produced by the E.W. Scripps Company and distributed by NBC Enterprises. Her new magazine, Seasons by Rebecca, launched in February 2006. Joe Lamp'l is the Host of DIY Network's Fresh From the Garden and the joe gardener Radio Show in Atlanta. He's also a Master Gardener, Certified Landscape Professional, and syndicated columnist in nearly 400 newspapers. His spectacular ability as a presenter and educator makes Joe a sought-after resource and a nationally recognized gardening expert. He is the founder and President of The joe gardener Company. As Chief Gardening Officer of Hilton Garden Inn Charlie Nardozzi oversees "Grow a School Garden," partnering Hilton Garden Inns with local school gardening programs. He is also Senior Horticulturist at the National Gardening Association, where he has authored and edited the ? for Dummies gardening book series and numerous national magazine articles. In addition, Charlie is a National Public Radio commentator, a talk radio show host, and a public speaker at national venues such as Master Gardener conferences and flower shows.

Kitty Bartholomew is a Designer/Motivator with six years on ABC-TV's The Home Show and eight years on HGTV's You're Home. She is also a decorating correspondent and host of PBS television specials. A favorite on Oprah, she'll be included in Oprah's anniversary DVD series Best of Oprah. Kitty frequently lectures throughout the country and on the high seas on the QE2 and Coral Princess ships. She serves on the advisory board of the California Design College.
