So. Burlington, VT (December 2, 2008) - The National Gardening Association (NGA) and Bayer Advanced have launched a new grant program - The Bayer Advanced "Grow Together with Roses" Award. The Awards will distribute 25 grants of roses provided by All-America Rose Selections and educational materials to school gardens across the country.
Rose gardens provide a beautiful and tranquil space to bring people together, fostering community spirit and positive relationships. The Bayer Advanced "Grow Together with Roses" School Garden Award, will help schools establish new rose gardens as a way to nurture students and build relationships with the local community.
"One of the most popular garden plants of all times, roses delight the senses, engaging gardeners of all ages," says NGA Education Specialist Sarah Pounders. "Schools may be interested in creating a memorial or peace gardens with the roses. Regardless of the theme, the benefits to students are plentiful. As students learn to care for their plants, they also develop important interpersonal skills such as patience, communication, and cooperation. The garden provides them with the opportunity to interact with other community members and make a positive impact on their surroundings."
"We are proud to be a sponsor of the 'Grow Together with Roses' Program," says Mark Schneid, Bayer Advanced Head of Marketing. "We believe gardening is incredibly important to the planet, and programs of this type stimulate children's creativity, sense of community, and love for nature.
The grants are open to school and community organizations across the United States that plan to garden with at least 15 children between the ages of 3 and 18 in 2009. Applications must be postmarked by January 23rd, 2009, and awards will be shipped between March 1 and May 15, 2009, based on the best planting time for the recipient's region.
