South Burlington, VT (March, 2012) - The National Gardening Association and the grandchildren of Helene and Mark Eisner., Inc. have announced the 2012 Midwest Garden Grant Award. For three years, this award has been offered to states throughout the Midwest, providing over $30,000 in donations to youth garden programs. This year ten programs will receive $750 in garden supplies.

″I have seen many at-risk kids flourish in the garden setting, and successfully engage in learning that they'd previously failed at in the traditional classroom setting,″ shares sponsor Amos Lans. ″Gardens create an important link between home and school, and between elders and youth.″

This year, as an added bonus, Proven Winners® has joined the program and is generously donating Supertunia®Petunias to each Garden Grant recipient.

The awards are open to elementary, middle, and high schools serving low- to middle-income students located in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Educators should be planning to garden with students in the spring and/or summer of 2012. The garden programs should teach students life skills, reinforce academics, develop environmental stewardship, and encourage students to make positive choices for themselves and the planet. Applications are available online at through April 1st, 2012. Award winners will be announced by April 27th, 2012. For full details , please visit

The winning programs will receive $750 in garden supplies, an NGA literature package, and a plant donation from Proven Winners®. This package will provide these programs with the necessary tools to either start or continue to engage children and build their knowledge in the garden.
