We'd like to hear about your ingenious and successful gardening ideas and projects. What have you tried that solved a problem in the garden, made a huge impact on your garden's success, or helped you make the most of gardening in an urban setting or in a small space? We will judge the entries on originality and impact/results. The first place winner will receive a fantastic Outdoor Container Garden. Second- and third-place winners also will win prizes. The deadline for entries is March 1st, and winners will be announced in the April issue of Moss in the City newsletter.

Here's the scoop:

One first-place winner will receive:

  • Two 13-inch Fiberglast outdoor containers from Southern Patio www.southernpatio.com.
  • Two Echinacea plants in 1-gallon pots from Plants Nouveau (http:plantsnouveau.com/index.html): one 'Coconut Lime' plant (the first double, white coneflower); and one 'Pink Double Delight' plant (fully double, deep pink flowers on 2-foot-tall plants).
  • One 16-inch by 96-inch roll of plastic mesh pot liner for improving drainage and reducing the weight of containers from Better Than Rocks (www.betterthanrocks.com).

Official Rules

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCE OF WINNING. IF THIS GIVEAWAY IS PROHIBITED BY LAW WHERE YOU LIVE, DO NOT ENTER THE GIVEAWAY.

ELIGIBILITY: Open to U.S. residents 18 years of age and older. Employees of NGA and immediate family and household members of each are not eligible.

HOW TO ENTER: Fill out the form on this page completely. In the box provided, submit a description, in 100 words or less, of an ingenious and successful idea or project you've used in your garden. Describe the idea/project, how you implemented it, and what results you observed. Once your entry is received, you will automatically be entered to win a prize.

ENTRY DEADLINE: Entries must be received by 11:59:59 PM EST on March 1, 2008, to be eligible.

JUDGING CRITERIA: NGA will judge the entries on these criteria: originality and impact/results. NGA's decision is final. Winner will be notified by e-mail within 30 days after deadline. If winner does not respond to claim the prize within 15 days after notification, their prize will be forfeited and a new winner will be chosen.

PRIZES: As described above. Sponsor reserves the right to determine how the prizes are delivered and may substitute prizes as deemed necessary. Prizes are not refundable for cash value.

GENERAL: By entering, participants also agree: (a) to be bound by the Official Rules; (b) that the decision of the NGA is final on all matters relating to the promotion; and (c) to release NGA and its agents and their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, and affiliates, and each of their respective officers, directors, employees and agents from any and all liability, loss or damage arising out of participation in this promotion or with respect to awarding, receipt, possession use and/or misuse of any prize. Sponsor reserves the right to end the contest at its sole discretion. Sponsor retains the copyright on any information submitted for entry. Such information will not be returned to applicant.

PRIVACY POLICY: Your contact information may be shared with the companies donating the prizes in order to ship the prizes, but will not be shared with other companies. NGA may, from time to time, send gardening related e-mail offers to applicants.

DISPUTES: All issues and questions regarding the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules or the rights and obligations of entrants in connection with the Giveaway shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the State of Vermont, without regard for conflicts of law doctrine, and any disputes shall be resolved by mediation or in a court of competent jurisdiction in Chittenden County, Vermont.
