'Royal Frost' Petunia

By Charlie Nardozzi, June 23, 2008

Petunias have always been known for their attractive flowers, but a new variety is the first petunia with variegated leaves. 'Royal Frost', a sport of 'Purple Wave', features the same creeping habit and magenta flowers, but with attractive white and light green leaves.

Although not as vigorous as 'Purple Wave', 'Royal Frost' is also a creeper, and looks best cascading over the edge of a container or rock wall. It also is more heat sensitive, growing best with afternoon shade during the summer in the north and in part shade during spring and fall in hot-summer areas. It has the same reblooming qualities as 'Purple Wave' and requires the same watering and fertilizing. This first year, 'Royal Frost' is available on a limited basis as plants only. In the East and Midwest, check Frank's Garden Centers, or contact the breeder, Timbuk Farms, at www.timbuk.com.
