This is a plant also known as Cherokee plum, Florida Sand Plum, Sandhill plum, etc. It can grow to 20 ft. tall and it has an irregular shape and has scaly almost black bark. The thorn like side branches are very sharp. The flowers are white and appear in early spring before the leaves appear. The fruit (plum) are similar to cherries and are tart unless fully ripened which happens to be in late summer. The fruits can be used in jellies, preserves and also desserts. The tree can be grown as a bonsai.
