This is a perennial shrub, which has large trumpet shaped white or violet flowers. This particular shrub grows white flowers, and flowers frequently, with large blooms every now and then. I grow it in nitrogen rich soil, with a frequent water drip from the AC run-off. This plant attracts a multitude of pollinators, as many as 30+ bees at one time, flying ants, crawling ants, beetles, flies, and the occasional wasp to name a few. The plant is resistant to most pests, as it is highly toxic, containing both atropine and schopolomine. These agents are anti-colinergenic alkaloids, and can cause severe dehydration, hallucinations, delirium, paralysis of certain systems, and even death. The leaves and seeds are considered most toxic, however the plant can concentrate toxins in areas where it is having pest issues, so there is really no way of knowing how much of each alkaloid is present, even from seed to seed or leaf to leaf. Always handle with care, and make sure anyone who may come in contact with this plant knows that it is extremely dangerous to consume, or even get onto your skin, as the alkaloids are also able to enter your system transdermally.
