By sunnyvalley May 18, 2016 | Making Your Own Standard Roses This last winter wasn’t as cold as most, at least not for us, but you may still have some roses that have not survived. Sometimes you only lose the grafted rose and come spring all you see are suckers from the rootstock. Depressing, but look on the bright side - those suckers are ideal for making your own standard roses! (656 words - Read the full article) |

Just received a box from Great Garden Plants today. Agree with everything others have said in the earlier recommendations. Great job of packing and very healthy plants. I received 3 clematises and a daisy, plus a free bonus sedum. All were in quart containers. Here they are, just out of the box:
Outstanding resource for native plant seeds, 1st year plants, and bare root plants.
Year round, The Arbor Gate is our favorite nursery to visit. Beverly always seems to have informative classes, podcasts, appreciation days, etc. going on throughout each season. For us, it is a thirty-minute drive, but well worth it. We have purchased many items, from small herbs to trees, and have always been pleased with the results.
I ordered seeds from Willhite Seed and received them within a few days. Unfortunately, I left them on the porch temporarily and the sprinkler got the shipping bag wet, BUT look how they are packed. Nothing got wet! Also, all the seeds seem to be coated with fungicide, which is wonderful as most are for this fall or next year.
I am beyond amazed with what arrived in my box today! I ordered 3 daylily plants and was expecting double fans. Instead, I received large clumps of each of the plants! They arrived neatly wrapped in slightly moist paper, looking beyond healthy and clean. In addition, I received a very nice bonus plant, also a very nice size. I will definitely be looking to Woodhenge for future Daylily purchases.
I've used ADR multiple times to supply local-delivery group buys for our mid-atlantic gardening forum folks. We've done tulips, daffodils, crocus, amaryllis etc. in fall and lilies, dahlias, glads, and bare root perennials in spring. They have always made sure we're more than happy, although we occasionally have some juggling at the end. We've had excellent results with their bulbs, but mixed results with bare root perennials (which come from another grower, not from the family farms in Holland). They have a $200 minimum purchase, but if you want to host a group buy that's not hard to meet LOL. They are a wholesale supplier but love to work with garden clubs. We love getting outstanding bulbs at 1/3-1/2 of retail prices! We look forward to doing business with them for years to come!
They supplied a group buy for lily bulbs for our mid-atlantic group this spring (local pick-up). We had an excellent experience, from ordering to delivery! My sales contact is Dave Dowling, and he definitely went the extra mile with customer service, ensuring that we were more than pleased. I'm sure we don't end up spending less $, but their wholesale prices let us buy a lot more bulbs for our bucks!
Adding my enthusiastic endorsement of Ken and his beautiful plants! I've ordered Plumeria cuttings and Tillandsias from him. He couldn't be more helpful, packing and shipping are excellent, and the plants are fantastic, at excellent prices. Plus, he has a lovely habit of offering special deals on the sales and group buys forum here. Thanks, Ken!!
Purchased some lilium seeds from Hill View this year. Marcus at Hill View kept me up to date by email with my order and was also happy to answer questions. Seeds arrived in good condition and are germinating well. Highly recommend and will buy from in future.
