The July 2017 Not-A-Raffle-Raffle!

Posted by @dave on
Another great raffle this month! Get your acorns out and take a look at what's being offered this time.

Here we go again with another Not-a-Raffle Raffle. Why is this not a regular raffle? Well, in a regular raffle, you pay for the tickets with money. But in NGA raffles, you buy your tickets with acorns. Tickets cost 5 acorns each. Don't know what acorns are? Click here to learn about acorns, and how to get them.

Important note: these prizes are all only available to members in the United States. I'm really sorry for those in other countries, but the complications and expense of shipping things to other countries is just too difficult and costly to arrange with the various companies. For this reason, we have made the decision to limit the contest to United States winners only. If you are outside the US, you can still participate, but if you win you will need to gift the prize to another member of your choice.

Good luck to all participants, and now let's talk about the prizes:

Cobrahead is providing a “mini” CobraHead weeder!! This awesome and brand new tool is about half the size of the Original CobraHead Weeder and cultivator. It weighs less than five ounces and is 8.75 inches long. The “mini” blade is forged, tempered steel. The handle of the small tool is a recycled plastic/organic fiber composite. Left-handed or right-handed gardeners will find either tool comfortable to use. The handle shape will fit just about any size hand comfortably.

Perfect Plants is providing three 1-gallon sized roses to four different winners. Winners will be notified of availability and will get to choose their colors of Drift® and or Knock Out® Roses. Both of these series of roses have changed how we think of roses, as they are highly disease resistant, re-blooming and require little specialized care. Limited to USA and excludes California, Arizona, Alaska and Hawaii. Perfect Plants is a family owned and operated nursery based in North Florida.  Our 35 years extensive experience began in 1980 with our father's purchase of the land that was to become our nursery.  The desire for our high standards to be able to reach more individual consumers is what began our online operations.  We strive to offer a diverse selection of hand-chosen and carefully packaged plants in hopes to deliver exactly what our name suggests: Perfect Plants!

Victory Seed Company is providing $25 gift certificate to their store. The Victory Seed Company is a family owned and operated, small farm-based organization working to keep rare and threatened plant varieties available to home gardeners. All of their seeds are open-pollinated, open source, non-hybrid, and not chemically treated. As an early signer of the "Safe Seed Pledge" they will never knowingly sell GMO seeds. Many of the varieties are family heirlooms, most are old standard varieties that are hard to find.

Perennial Obsessions is providing a $40.00 gift certificate (plus free shipping). U.S. only. We are a small mail order nursery offering a wide variety of named hardy succulents. Our specialty focuses on Sempervivum and sedum.

Oak Hill Daylilies is providing a $50 gift certificate. We offer quality plants, a diverse selection of colors, forms, and prices. Your satisfaction is guaranteed. Our website offers 1350 daylilies with photos of all, but the newest additions. US shipping only.

The HEFT is providing three HEFT tools, one each to three different winners. If you are like 80% of people that have felt that familiar twinge of back pain when bending to work in the garden, you need a HEFT. The HEFT is the Simple tool that Saves your Back! This award winning doctor endorsed secondary handle makes gardening much easier and safer as it allows the user to work more upright with less pain and fatigue - and it can be attached in just one second without the use of tools. Ergonomic tools are proven to be the safest and most comfortable way to work in any situation from working in the garden to shoveling the snow when it falls. See Dave's video review of this tool. The HEFT was invented by a very creative inventor with a bad back, a very bad back that struggled with simple tasks like gardening and snow shoveling. After years of trial and error to adjust angles and find the right materials The HEFT was born or should we say created. Today this best seller from Canada is now an award winner and doctor endorsed 'must have' tool for anyone wanting to avoid pain from bending to garden or shovel snow. Over 350,000 Canadians own a HEFT and now The HEFT is finally available and Made in America to help keep backs safer and more comfortable.

Hollingsworth Peonies is providing one 'Gardenia' peony. 'Gardenia’ is a blush white lactiflora group peony which was bred by Mr. E. H. Lins of Cologne, Minnesota and released in 1948. It is a fine garden peony which is not widely offered and included in our novelty collection. Flowers are large and as the name might imply formed akin to gardenia flowers. It is slightly scented giving off a faint sweet fragrance. The stems are clad in dark green semi glossy foliage which contrasts the white blooms perfectly. The plant is medium tall and will need light support in the viewed landscape due to the weight of the large full double flowers. This cultivar is midseason to late midseason flowering. The flowers are generally of exhibition quality. It is a perfect garden peony that also has excellent cut flower qualities.

The bare root peonies will be shipped in the fall - around mid October. If the winner is located in Alaska we can ship in September to accommodate. For all other states October is appropriate. Please note peonies do not grow well in Florida, Southern California and areas south of I-20. This prize is only available to winners within the geographic limitations outlined above. Hollingsworth Peonies - your peony farm, where we guarantee variety - peonies are what we do!

This is your one stop web-site for everything about peonies. How to grow peonies, how to divide and plant, and of course your guaranteed variety source. Always American Grown, we do not resell imports.

@LizinElizabeth is providing prizes for 2 different members: 3 peonies per winner. First winner will choose from the following 6 cultivars, 2nd winner will get the other three.

Abalone Pearl (Krekler) early, semi-double, hybrid coral pink flowers

Athena (Saunders) early, single, hybrid ivory to apricot yellow flowers with lavender flares at base

Coral Fay (Fay) early semi-double, hybrid, fairly short plant bright pink flowers

Postillion (Saunders) early-mid, double, hybrid, very large deep scarlet flowers

Rose Heart (Bockstoce) mid-early, double, hybrid, flowers open dark pink and immediately start to fade from the edges until the outer part is barely tinged pink, center stays darker

Topeka Statue (Bigger) late, Japanese, lactiflora, very light pink to white, goblet shaped flowers.

Peonies will ship in late September to early October.

Lastly, I will give 50 acorns each to the 3 remaining winners.

As always, the ticket buying window is open now and will close on July 20th at 7:00pm Central time. The drawing will be done and posted the following day. The first place winner gets first pick of all the prizes, and then the second winner picks, and so forth until all prizes are claimed. Important note for winners: If you are contacted as a winner and asked to choose a prize you have 24 hours to respond with your choice. If you do not respond within that time, the next placed winner will be contacted and allowed to pick.

This raffle is now closed!
