Term Definition
calyx (kay'lihks) n., pl. calyxes, or calyces. In botany, in general, the outer set of the envelopes that form or enclose the base of a flower. It is usually more green and leaflike than the corolla, but it is often highly colored and corollalike and is sometimes the first to fall.
