The Q&A Archives: Mother-in-law's Tongue Plant

Questioner's Location: Vancouver, WA
Date: May 12, 2005

Question: How often should this plant be watered, how much light is required, etc. In other words, best way to take care of this type of plant.
thanks for all your info. Rita

Answer: Sansevieria, the Mother-In-Law's Tongue, is grown outdoors in mild-winter climates and indoors in climates such as yours. It withstands dry air, fluctuating temperatures and scanty, infrequent waterings. It will grow under low-light conditions but looks better if given moderate light, average household temperatures and water when the soil is dry. It's an almost cast-iron plant!
