The Q&A Archives: cannas.. when to plant

Questioner's Location: kALAMAZOO, MI
Date: May 22, 2007

Question: Hi.... I meant to ask you the other day about WHEN to plant the cannas.. I am in zone 5 in the lowest part of Michigan.

I dont want to do it too early or too late!

Thanks, Dorian

Answer: When daytime temperatures are between 40-50 degrees you can safely set your cannas out. They never really stop growing, but remain in a state of rest until the weather warms. As soon as you plant them outdoors and the soil warms, they will wake up and begin growing. Enjoy your garden!
