The Q&A Archives: Caring for Florida Palms

Date: October 26, 1997

Question: I just got some Florida palm trees. How should I care for them? Rosa Galveston,TX

Answer: Just plant'em! Find a sunny location on well drained soil and give them room, because as you know palm trees get huge! Dig a hole as large as the root ball, add 1 part composted manure mixed with 2 parts nature, light, sandy soil and a handful of a complete fertilizer such as 5-10-5 to the hole, keep it shaded for the first few weeks from the hot sun and also keep it well watered the first year and nature should take care of the rest.
